Music Resources for Learning at Home

Here we go again… back in Lockdown!

We believe it is important, now more than ever, that children continue to have access to musical activities during this challenging time. So, we’ll be providing links to various resources that parents and carers can enjoy with their children as they continue to develop their musical skills. We’ll be updating this page with resources regularly to do come back soon! The following activities are also suitable for teaching colleagues to use with children attending school.

Encore's Summer 2020 Home Learning Resources

Last summer, we produced a range of weekly activities for children up to Year 6. We’ve made them available again and they can be accessed here. There are loads of activities to try so why not dip in and try a few!

Singing Resources

Do you have a child that loves to sing?! The benefits of singing for children’s wellbeing and mental health is well documented and we’re grateful to our friends at ‘Big Sing Soul’ who have kindly made available a great set of online singing resources.

In each video, the ‘Big Sing’ tutors teach children all-important vocal warm ups, break down the song and introduce moves and body percussion to accompany the lyrics. You can stop/start, rewind/pause whenever you want. Lesson plans are also provided which contain all the song lyrics. Click here to access the songs and lessons plans.

Starting on Tuesday 12 January, Sing Up will be streaming live on Tuesday mornings at 9am GMT, with fifteen minutes of singing and musical fun to wake pupils up and get them ready for a day of learning.

Each session will stream live for anyone to watch for free on and on Sing Up at Home, run by an excellent vocal leader who will lead children in fifteen minutes of warming up and singing to start off the day. For anyone who misses the live event, the videos will be available to watch on both platforms afterwards.

Peterborough Music Hub Home Learning Resources

Our friends at Peterborough Music Hub have generously given us permission to share with you a series of Home Learning music videos, created by Sue Nicholls, to support over-stretched teachers with remote music provision!

There are 9 videos in all: 3 each for Y1/2, Y3/4 and Y5/6, and lasting about 10-12 minutes. They require no 'proper ' instruments, just sound-makers such as spoons and cardboard boxes - all of which can easily be found at home. The films provide creative outcomes to connect pupils and teachers and gently hint at family involvement.
