Encore Enterprises

Newsletter to Schools and Colleges

November 2022

Welcome back to all schools and colleges across Herefordshire.  I’m really excited to be taking on the role of Music Education Manager at Encore. I’m looking forward to coming into schools, meeting you all and offering any support and encouragement that you need with music teaching. I have been a primary music specialist and music support teacher for 27 years and have spent the last 8 years as a class teacher at Bosbury CE Primary School. I will be contacting schools directly to arrange visits and meetings with the music co-ordinator, but please do get in touch before that if you need help with any aspect of your music education delivery: suew@encore-enterprises.com

Wider Opportunities

Whole Class Ensemble Tuition

We have a fantastic team of Wider Opportunities tutors who are experienced and brilliant at delivering this programme. Hopefully the year will have got off to a good start, and you will have started to hear music echoing through the hallways with children becoming excited about their new instrument! Please could I give a few reminders about Wider Opportunities if you have an Encore tutor delivering this:

IMGP9146.JPG
  • A school member of staff should be in the room with the Encore tutor, actively participating in the lesson.

  • This programme is intended to provide high quality CPD to the school staff.

  • This member of staff should be recording a few sessions as evidence of progression throughout the year and saving it onto your school system (Ofsted will expect to see this). Please do tweet the learning that is happening in these sessions and tag us at #EncoreHereford

  • This member of staff should be assisting the Encore tutor with assessment.

  • The Wider Opportunities scheme is not meant to replace the National Curriculum for music, although much of the curriculum will be covered such as singing and listening.

For those of you who are interested in this programme but do not currently have this provision in your school, please contact me for more information: suew@encore-enterprises.com

Just before the summer holidays, The Department for Education and Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport released the long-awaited new National Plan for Music Education, The power of music to change lives: a national plan for music education - GOV.UK.

The non-statutory guidance emphasises that the role that schools play is at the centre of music education, supported by music hubs.

The DfE would like to see offered in every school:

  • Timetabled curriculum of at least one hour each week of the school year for key stages 1-3.

  • Access to lessons across a range of instruments, and voice.

  • A school choir and/or vocal ensemble.

  • A school ensemble/band/group.

  • Space for rehearsals and individual practice.

  • A termly school performance.

  • Opportunity to enjoy live performance at least once a year.

Please contact me on suew@encore-enterprises.com for support with any aspect of this plan.

Governors

Did you know that we can provide governors with support with music in your school? Please click here for relevant documents to guide and help your school governors with understanding their role in supporting the music lead.
