On Sunday 25 September, two members of HYO played alongside professional musicians in the ESO’s Season Opening Mozart Gala. After a first half including the overture to Marriage of Figaro, a new work by Robert Saxton and Mozart’s wonderful Piano Concerto no.20 with Clare Hammond as soloist, the orchestra were joined for the second half by Alice Shaw (‘cello) and Livi van Warmelo (violin) for a performance of Mozart’s Symphony no.40. It was a wonderful experience for our young players and part of a strategic partnership between Herefordshire Music Service and the English Symphony Orchestra with their principal conductor, Kenneth Woods.
