On Wednesday 15 March, Hereford Cathedral School welcomes back former pupil and chorister, Patrick Dunachie, for an evening of music with The King’s Singers. The double Grammy Award-winning vocal ensemble will be the highlight of the evening’s programme at the Cathedral, topping a bill that also includes the School’s own choirs and friends.
Born in September 1993, Patrick joined Hereford Cathedral School as a chorister and went on to receive a choral scholarship to read music at King’s College, Cambridge. In 2016, Patrick achieved his childhood ambition after being appointed to sing with The King’s Singers, one of the world’s finest vocal ensembles. “When I was about 14, I told my English teacher that my dream job would be singing first countertenor in The King’s Singers,” explains Patrick. “I feel really lucky that the dream has come true!"
Headmaster Paul Smith was delighted at the news of a returning star pupil. “Patrick is a one of many talented former and current pupils we have in our school,” he said. “Patrick and his older brother, Liam, both showed exceptional musical ability from a young age and we are fortunate to have been able to help them develop the skills to elevate them to the top of their profession.
“Hereford Cathedral School has a national reputation for music, each year sending either choral or organ scholars to Cambridge or Oxford, as well as providing many of the top conservatoires and universities with outstanding musicians.
“The school is pleased that it is able to provide talented young musicians with scholarship and bursary support. I am particularly delighted that the School’s musical reputation is encouraging other schools and colleges in the County to raise their expectations for music – something that Herefordshire can be very proud of. ”
