Over the last couple of years, Encore Enterprises (one of Herefordshire’s largest music and arts charities) has developed an exciting new initiative for training staff in Early Years and Foundation Stage settings across the county. Thanks to grant-funding from the county-based Sylvia Short Educational Charity, and the Herefordshire Community Foundation, this essential work is able to continue for the whole of this academic year.
Herefordshire Community Foundation (HCF) is a local funder helping to build stronger communities across Herefordshire. Since 2002, donations from local residents and businesses have enabled HCF to award £7 million in grants to local community groups and individuals in need. Sylvia Short was personally committed to extending the education of young people in Herefordshire, particularly in the arts and the environment. Her charity is delighted to support Encore Enterprises in their work to give children in their early years new and much-needed opportunities to develop their engagement with music.
Wendy Wilson Goddard, Encore’s Early Years lead, is supporting teachers and staff to develop confidence, access new resources and make music a part of every day. This training for a wide variety of nurseries, pre-schools and reception classes will leave a legacy to benefit Herefordshire under-fives for years to come.
Diane Ford, the manager of Sutton Seedings Pre-School, hosted the most recent training and said, “it was fantastic to be able to host the Encore 'Sing, Move, Play' workshop for an enthusiastic group of Sutton children and Early Years Practitioners from across Hereford. Exploring the possibilities of using song and movement with children was thoroughly enjoyable and hugely beneficial. I think everybody is keen to take back what they have learnt to their own settings”.
