Freelance Music Mentors – Supporting Vulnerable Young People (Livewire Project)
Location: Various Settings around the county
Rate: £39 p/h
Hours: To be agreed with successful applicants
The Role: Encore Enterprises is seeking dedicated Music Tutors to work within our outreach programs, specifically supporting young people in PRUs, Specialist Schools, and Looked After Children (LAC).
For these students, music isn’t just a hobby—it’s a vital way to communicate, process emotions, and build self-esteem. We need tutors who prioritize the young person’s wellbeing as much as the musical output.
What you’ll be doing:
Delivering 1-on-1 or small group sessions in one or more of the following band building, songwriting, rap, and production.
Building trust and rapport with young people who may have had negative experiences with traditional education.
Using a "youth-led" approach—letting their interests (be it drill, rock, or lo-fi) drive the session.
Who you are:
Patient & Resilient: You understand that progress isn’t always linear and can stay calm under pressure.
Trauma-Informed: You have experience (or a strong interest) in working with LAC or students with SEND/SEMH needs.
Adaptable: You can pivot a lesson instantly to meet the student's emotional needs on the day.
Committed to Safeguarding: You understand the high level of responsibility required in these settings.
Applications are now open!
Encore Enterprises has a Safer Recruitment policy and ALL successful candidates who wish to work with children will require an enhanced DBS check and satisfactory references. Remuneration is set on a per project basis and this can be discussed at interview.
If you are a hardworking and committed freelancer who is inspired by the opportunity to develop cultural services to our community, then we would welcome your application.
For an informal discussion, please email Chris Butts-Knowles (Popular Music Leader) (chrisb@encore-enterprises.com)
